UNR Moving Guide: Easier Move-In and Move-Out in Reno Without Cardboard

01Why UNR move weeks are different

Moves near the University of Nevada, Reno cluster into a few short windows. In spring, thousands of students pack up at the same time, and in late summer everyone arrives at once. Elevators get busy, parking near campus fills, and stores run low on boxes right when you need them.

Planning around those peaks is the single biggest way to make your move calmer. Book your supplies early, pick a delivery date a few days before your move, and leave time to pack without rushing.

02Why totes beat cardboard for students

Dorm and apartment moves involve stairs, hallways, carts, and car trunks. Rigid totes with attached lids stack square, carry evenly, and do not collapse when a stack shifts. There is no tape to buy and no pile of flattened boxes to haul to the recycling bin at the end.

03How many totes does a student need?

04Spring move-out tips

Start sorting a week before finals end. Pack clothes and items you will not need first, keep a small open tote for last-day essentials, and label every tote with its destination: home, storage, or next year's apartment.

If you are moving into storage for the summer, uniform totes stack higher and use a storage unit more efficiently than mixed boxes.

05Fall move-in tips

Schedule delivery a few days before you move so you can pack calmly. Families driving in from out of town can have totes delivered to a Reno address and packed the day before. Label totes by room or by roommate so unloading goes fast.
